Weekly Updates Nov 21 – 27, 2016


This week was the official release of Welcome to Canada, a short film through the eyes of ISSofBC’s Mohammed Alsaleh, highlighting the front-line work of ISSofBC staff and the lives of refugee families resettling in British Columbia.

In addition, the Liu Institute for Global Issues looks back on Canada’s Refugee Record on the Global Stage and ISSofBC and the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (MSDSI) will be holding a 2-hour training webinar titled Syrian Refugees Month 13 and Beyond on December 7.

In the news this week, a Salmon Arm refugee advocate ‘disappointed’ by hateful graffiti, a young Iranian helps Syrian refugees adjust to Canada ,and a former teen refugee recognized this week for helping immigrants.

The Refugee Readiness Hub also added a new report by the UNHCR on the refugee education crisis and stories of settlement journey’s published by the Government of Canada.
