Weekly Updates Feb 13 – Feb 19, 2017


A number of university events are taking place this spring in BC including the Middle East and the Refugee Crisis: An Evening with Robert Fisk at Simon Fraser University March 7. Robert Fisk, an award winning Middle East correspondent for The Independent, will provide an on-the-ground perspective of events in the Middle East and the origins of the refugee crisis.

In addition the University of Victoria will host a conference of the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies. CARFMS17 will invite researchers, policy makers and activists from diverse disciplines and regions to discuss the parameters of global displacement, especially the experiences of those taking routes less traveled.

The Refugee Readiness Hub has also added information on a UBC youth support program. The University of British Columbia looking for youth people who are new to Canada to participate in a support program that explores experiences in becoming an adult.

In the news this week Kadah, an experienced barber, is one of a handful of Syrian refugees who have found employment in Nanaimo.
